I am a Certified Massage Therapist with over 4 years of extensive training and experience in the Professional Therapeutic Massage industry. My certification and areas of expertise are in...

THERAPEUTIC - A smooth, flowing style that promotes general relaxation, improves circulation and range of movement, and relieves muscular tension.

DEEP TISSUE - Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fibers of the muscles, tendons and fascia.

NEUROMUSCULAR /TRIGGER POINT - Trigger point therapy is a bodywork technique that involves the applying of pressure to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body. Sometimes massage and trigger point therapy are performed together.

MYOFASCIAL MASSAGE - To understand Myofascial Massage and why it works, we have to understand what fascia is. Fascia is a thin tissue that covers the organs of the body. It is like Saran Wrap. This tissue envelopes every muscle and every fiber within each muscle. All muscle stretching, then, is in fact stretching of the fascia and the muscle, the Myofascial unit.
When muscle fibers are injured, the fascia fibers that surround the muscle become short, tight and misaligned. This uneven stress can be spread through the fascia to other parts of the body, setting off pain and a variety of symptoms in areas we often wouldn’t expect. Myofascial massage treats these symptoms in areas we often wouldn’t expect. Myofascial massage treats these symptoms by releasing and realigning the tightness in the injured fascia.
So, Myofascial massage is the stretching, releasing and realigning of the fascia. The stretch is guided by feedback the therapist feels from the clients body. This feedback informs the therapist how much comfortable force, depth and direction to use during the massage. The therapist works on the superficial layer and then progressively goes deeper without producing pain. It should feel like the fascia is melting.

*PAIN & MASSAGE*

Pain is a protective mechanism that is essential for our survival. It makes us pull our hands away from a hot object to avoid injury, for example.
The sensation of pain is transmitted from pain receptors up the spinal cord to the thalamus in the brain. It is then transmitted to the sensory cortex, which interprets where the pain is located.
There are two types of pain: acute pain, which is the sharp, localized pain you experience when you prick your finger, and chronic pain, which varies from being a dull ache to severe, persistent pain.
Acute pain is unpleasant but short-lived. It is usually more difficult to cope with chronic pain because the cause can be difficult to pinpoint, it can last for years and it can profoundly affect our everyday lives. When this type of pain persists, people often feel helpless and suffer from depression, anxiety, insomnia, and fatigue.
There are many factors that affect perception and tolerance of pain. Our expectation of pain, anxiety level, previous experiences, and ability to cope, as well as our ethnic origin, age, and general physical condition may all have a bearing on how we cope with pain.

*THE GATE THEORY*

The Gate Theory of Pain, first outlined by Meltzack and Wall in 1965, proposed that there is a mechanism, or "gate" that limits the number of impulses that are transmitted up the spinal cord to the brain at any one time. According to the theory, nerves carrying the sensation of light, touch and pressure, transmit their impulses faster than the nerves that carry information from pain receptors. The theory helps to explain how, in this way, massage can ease pain.
If you rub your elbow after you have hurt it, the rubbing action usually helps to relieve the pain. This is because the sensation of rubbing the skin reaches the fate in the spinal cord first. The gate will then be closed to the pain impulse because another impulse (rubbing the skin) is already being transmitted to the brain, In this way, massage, as an alternative stimulus, should help to close the gate to pain impulses.
As well as acting as a distraction, massage induces relaxation, diminishes arousal, and gives a feeling of well-being. It also temporarily increases the local circulation, removing substances released by injured tissues (histamine, prostaglandins, and lactic acid) that can sensitize the pain receptors. All of these actions help to reduce perception of pain.

My dedication to the field guarantees that my clients receive the most complete and personalized attention, maximizing the most powerful effects of massage. I am dedicated to providing clients with the best service possible and in doing so, pursue continuing education on a regular basis to expand my skills, incorporating special techniques and theories into my work. My goal is to offer quality and effective massage therapy to each individual.
My focus is on the entire body as a system; structural, neurological, circulatory, fascia and others. Most people need bodywork in areas they are not aware of since pain is often referred.

Restorative Deep Healing Therapeutic Massage Combines various techniques such as Swedish, Deep Tissue, Myofascial Release & Neuromuscular Therapy. I design each massage session to meet your specific needs. The massage can be anything from very relaxing, sedative and pampering, to deeply therapeutic.... focusing on problems associated with chronic muscle tension, spasms and those stubborn knots. As always, you control the level of pressure through your feedback.

Massage is one of the safest, most natural and most effective techniques in stress relief, treatment of sports related injury and over-training, and in preventative medicine. Massage has also proven effective at reducing problems with hypertension (high blood pressure), chronic pain, arthritis, migraines and other chronic conditions.

Massage therapy requires more from the practitioner than merely knowing the techniques of a good massage. Any person who has had several massages from different practitioners can tell you that some massages are amazingly great, others are merely good, and some are just poor.

What makes the difference? One is training, and this is something I have from one of the best schools in the Midwest. Another is less tangible, and that is intuition. It takes a special kind of practitioner with the artistry to intuit exactly what the client needs and where. My training and extensive experience gives me that edge. I not only know the proper technique of a massage, but I also can visualize your posture and know what needs more attention, and where other problems may lie beyond your awareness of them.

This is what makes a truly great massage therapist. Do not settle for less than you deserve. Make sure the therapist you choose has a thorough understanding of Anatomy, Physiology and the risks that MAY be involved with your particular needs.

Helping your body work better through relaxation, stress reduction, pain relief and rehabilitation.
